Wedding FAQs

Christine & Harry at Winton Castle Wedding in Terraced Gardens

We do allow couples to supply their own wine and fizz for the drink’s reception and meal only. Winton will provide the full evening bar. Our corkage is £15 per bottle of wine and £20 per bottle for fizz. This corkage charge covers storage and chilling, glassware, and dedicated staff to serve.

Due to our proximity to the local village, we can only allow low noise firework displays between the months of October- March (inclusive) which would take place at 9pm during the bands evening break. It is not dark enough at this time during the other months of the year to hold displays. A 5-minute display starts from £2200 inc VAT.

You can have confetti outside the Castle as long as it is natural petal confetti that will blend into the gravel driveway and biodegrade.

Due to the surrounding land being home to livestock, we are unable to allow the release of Chinese lanterns on the estate.

Apart from the main caterer for your wedding that would be supplied by Winton, you are allowed to provide your own suppliers. These would include celebrants, photographers, musicians & bands, florists, cake makers, hair & makeup professionals. We do however have a recommended suppliers list that may be helpful. We do have a very short black-list of suppliers that we wouldn’t allow at the Castle again so if you want to run your choices past us before confirming them, that may be a good idea.

You are able to arrange your own food vans to supply food for the evening buffet only. As long as they would not require access to the Castle or kitchens, or use of our cutlery and crockery, we would charge a small fee of £150 to cover the supply of any electricity that they may require and staff on hand to do any clear up.

All of our panel caterers can cater for any dietary requirement. In the past we have even hosted entirely gluten free weddings, and on other occasions entirely vegan weddings.

To maintain consistency the manager that conducts your initial visit to the Castle is usually the coordinator that will guide you through the wedding planning process, be there on the wedding day as host to keep it moving and be there to wave you off the following day. It’s a truly personal service.

Weddings at Winton Castle must finish at midnight. After this the staff turn back into mice.

You can invite up to an additional 40 evening guests as long as it doesn’t take guest numbers above the maximum of 200 in the Castle (or 250 with use of a marquee). We do charge £10 per head for evening guests, however, this does include a welcome glass of Prosecco on arrival.

Due to the historical nature of the Castle and its interiors we are unable to allow dogs within the Castle, however dogs are welcome to join an outdoor ceremony or drinks reception. 2 of our self-catering houses, Wintonhill Farmhouse and Broomrigg Farmhouse, also accept dogs if you would like them to stay close by.

Apart from a couple of steps at the front door, for which there is a ramp, all of our main public rooms are on one floor with wide doorways. We also have a disabled access toilet on the main floor. Unfortunately, due to the layout of the Castle, all of our in-castle bedrooms are on upper floors without lift access.

As long as we have the dates available, you are very welcome to add on additional nights/ days hire with a minimum of 5 bedrooms taken. Please contact us directly for rates.

Our onsite carpark can park up to 60 cars, however we do have the option of an overflow car park for up to 100 additional cars.

As we adhere to strict health and safety and environmental health regulations, we do not allow events to bring in their own food. All catering will be provided by one of Winton’s pre-approved catering partners.

We do have a selection of garden games that we put out as standard in nice weather. This includes Croquet, boules and cornhole.

We have a SONOS system throughout the public rooms of the Castle that can play background music directly from a Spotify playlist.

Winton Cottage is the closest property to the Castle at a 10-minute walk. Wintonhill Farmhouse would be a 15-minute walk, however, please be aware that there would be a crossing over a 60 mile an hour B-road. Broomrigg is the furthest from the Castle at a 25-minute walk. As standard, Winton would provide a complementary taxi shuttle to take the estate self-catering guests back to their properties at midnight after the wedding celebrations have finished. Pre-booked shuttles to the Castle for the wedding can be added at an additional cost of £70.
