Invitation to Talk at Winton Castle by Scottish jewellery expert, Clare Blatherwick FGA DGA with a tour of the castle on 8th June 2023 (6pm – 8pm, doors open 5.30pm).

Winton Castle is delighted to welcome back world-renowned jewellery expert Clare Blatherwick FGA DGA for a talk on ‘The Story of Jewellery in Scotland’ on Thursday, 8th June 2023, for an enchanting evening of jewels and history. It’s also a rare opportunity to experience an evening in this exclusive-use events venue.

Visitors will be treated to an enchanting talk about the history of jewellery in Scotland by local jewellery expert Clare Blatherwick in Winton’s opulent drawing room with its intricate ceiling. From Mary Queen of Scots and her ladies in waiting including Mary Seton, a woman inextricably entwined in the history of Winton, to the modern day, this talk looks at Scottish jewellery made famous through Queen Victoria’s love of the country and its applied arts.

With a career spanning over twenty years and now based in Edinburgh and the Lothians, Clare Blatherwick FGA DGA is highly knowledgeable and experienced in the world of jewellery. In 2017, she founded Clare Blatherwick, a professional jewellery advisory business designed to offer her clients an alternative to the High Street. Her highly personalised approach involves meeting with clients in the comfort of their own home or elsewhere, to acquire or reinvent the ideal antique, vintage or modern jewellery pieces. The approach ensures complete privacy, the highest level of discretion in the search for that perfect antique or modern jewel, in an enjoyable and hassle-free way.

Previously, Clare spent ten years as the Head of Jewellery for Bonhams, Scotland when she spent time in Asia, the USA, South Africa, and Europe, giving her unique international knowledge of jewellery.

The evening will begin with a guided tour of Winton Castle, a beautiful Scottish Renaissance castle in East Lothian, half an hour from Edinburgh. Winton Castle’s remarkable, rich history stretches back over 500 years to the powerful Seton family. Winton was attacked by Henry VIII during the Rough Wooing to impress Mary Queen of Scots, then later rebuilt during the Scottish Renaissance (from 1620), when Kings were entertained. Since the 1920’s, Winton Castle has been lived in by the Ogilvy family.
