Margaret Wakeford and Simon Coverdale will be performing a piano duet recital including works by Schubert, Ravel and Barber at Winton House, the Scottish Renaissance exclusive use events venue near Pencaitland in East Lothian (half an hour from Edinburgh) on Sunday April 21st at 3.30pm.
This concert had to be postponed last November for health reasons but is now going ahead so please book your tickets now!
There has been a long tradition of concerts at Winton, a house described as a “gem of the Scottish Renaissance”, and indeed listening to fine music whilst surrounded by the intricately-moulded plaster ceilings and paintings by the masters provides a feast not just for the ears. Do come along and join the Edinburgh piano duo, Margaret Wakeford and Simon Coverdale, for an afternoon of classical music.
The genesis of a four-handed partnership between Margaret Wakeford and Simon Coverdale arose after their paths crossed while on the staff at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. As a husband and wife duo the logistical advantages play a significant rôle in their ensemble work, interpretation and programme planning: from concert platform to conference and special occasion, and through lecture recitals and masterclasses, their experience and coaching encourage many student partnerships to success and to help solitary pianists benefit from the possibilities of chamber music.
Repertoire ranges from the first four-handed compositions ever written to contemporary works especially composed for the performers. Their programmes have led to the renaissance of superb, but rarely-heard works, in both original and transcription form.
In 2010 they were invited to Washington State USA where they gave performances and workshops — performances around the country include regular recitals at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Tickets: £12.50 (students / under 17s – £10.50) to include drinks reception prior to the concert.
