Fiery Autumn Colours and Crackling Open Fires at Winton Castle
Scotland is a beautiful country at any time of year, but is truly spectacular for autumn weddings. The trees change from lush greens to cosy yellows and nature walks are accompanied by the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot.
At Winton the Castle has views over Sir David’s Loch against a backdrop of glorious woodland. Standing on the south-facing balcony you could be mistaken for thinking you are in the Highlands of Scotland, yet the Castle is only 30 minutes’ drive south-east of the centre of the beautiful city of Edinburgh.
Couples are drawn to the charm of an autumn wedding at Winton, when not only the grounds burst in fiery colour, but the cosy interiors of the Castle come to life with the crackle of open log fires and candlelight.
“For a brief 48 hours we felt like we were in our own home and that’s a truly special feeling to have on your wedding weekend and I’m not sure many venues could lay claim to such a feeling.”

Setting The Scene
Imagine your guests with a glass of Champagne or hot chocolate in hand, relaxing by an open fire while admiring the works of Canaletto, Van Dyke, or Raeburn or reading one of Winton’s many historically significant books.
The beauty of Winton lies in the freedom it offers your guests, allowing them to explore all seven interconnected rooms of the Castle at their own pace, or enjoy a leisurely stroll through the meticulously maintained grounds, including the expansive Walled Garden and the Terraced Gardens that gently slope down to our private Loch.
Scottish weather can be unpredictable, but rain and wind need not be a worry with the Castle’s generous and varied reception spaces that can comfortably host up to 120 guests, with no-need to venture outside. However, the floor to ceiling windows along the Drawing Room and Library walls allow guests to take in the gardens from the warmth of the Castle’s two best lounge spots, each boasting impressive open fireplaces.
The nights draw in early so candlelight will accompany your sumptuous wedding meal with dining options such as sharing feasts lending themselves to the cosy and relaxed family-friendly atmosphere. For those with a sweet tooth, take the opportunity to toast marshmallows on our roaring log firepits on our fairy-light lit Peacock Balcony as the light fades.
