The agri-tech business AbacusBio chose Winton Castle for their company away day because they liked its relaxed atmosphere and convenient location just half an hour east of Edinburgh.
AbacusBio is a highly respected science and technology consulting firm in agribusiness with its HQ in New Zealand and UK office at the Roslin Innovation Centre in Midlothian. Their consultants are experts in animal genetics and plant breeding who develop solutions to address food security challenges.
Their UK employees and an important client from the US took part in this away day and team building event at Winton Castle, to mark the end of a week of meetings. The visitors were a multi-cultural group of twenty-two people.
The visitors had meetings in the morning, followed by a barbecue lunch and mini Highland Games in the afternoon. This all took place in Winton’s Walled Garden where an open-sided marquee had been set up.
Bertha Molet, office manager at AbacusBio, says: “The marquee and hay bales were perfect for relaxed meetings. Then, we had an amazing barbecue with different kinds of meats. The dishes had a Mediterranean theme with hummus and lovely salads.
“The Highland Games were very entertaining. We have three teams each with a captain and played different games in groups. It was great for team building.
“Everyone felt very at home and relaxed. It seemed a long way from Edinburgh! We were really well looked after, and the Winton events team were very helpful and approachable. We were all pleased with our day out.”
Ms Molet adds: “Julie [who ran the event for Winton] was amazing at guiding us through our day. It was well organized, prepared and run. The range of mini Highland Games activities was impressive too and the barbecue lunch was outstanding! We had really good fun!”
