Music at Winton: The Lammermuir Festival comes to Winton House

The Lammermuir Festival returns for its third year presenting its biggest and most diverse programme to date. In unusual and stunning venues throughout the picturesque region of East Lothian, Scotland, the Festival runs from Friday 14 – Sunday 23 September 2012.
‘Beautiful Music In Beautiful Places’ is the hallmark of the Lammermuir Festival. The stunning natural beauty of East Lothian and its abundance of interesting venues provide the perfect setting. The Lammermuir Festival offers a sense of discovery: discovering music you might not have heard before, discovering new places in East Lothian, or even discovering that a place you know well is transformed when filled with music.
The Lammermuir Festival is coming to Winton House, a Scottish Renaissance gem, on Sunday 16th September at 3pm when two concerts will be performed, and guests can enjoy a delicious afternoon tea with home cooked delights.

Ensemble Marsyas includes some of Europe’s finest period instrument performers. They will be performing baroque music in Winton’s Georgian ballroom. Winton House is described as “one of Scotland’s most beautiful historic houses” and guests are surrounded by the masterpieces hanging on the walls.
In the drawing room where guests can look up at the intricate plaster ceilings, crafted by the king’s master mason, you can hear Beethoven and Fauré cello sonatas.

Last year’s the Scotsman stated: “A resounding success… the Lammermuir Festival has a magnetism all of its own.”
The Festival’s artistic directors, Hugh MacDonald and James Waters, say:
“The 2012 Lammermuir Festival is the biggest yet, including our adventurous site-specific event at Tantallon Castle. We have had a marvellous time planning twenty-three wonderful performances in unique East Lothian venues. Ranging from symphony orchestra to solo guitar and from string quartet to a cappella renaissance music, we think this programme is irresistible and we look forward to welcoming audiences in September.”

The Lammermuir Festival website states:
“This year’s young artist-in-residence is Scottish guitar phenomenon SEAN SHIBE. We feature the music of HANDEL, BACH and VIVALDI as well as threading French masterworks through the programme. We devote an entire day to the extraordinary range of the GUITAR and we are thrilled to be working with BBC Radio 3 on a wonderful series of LUNCHTIME SONG RECITALS.
“Our programme of great music is enhanced by TALKS, WALKS and GARDEN OPENINGS, and the rich food and drink offer of East Lothian.
“Most exciting of all is our event at TANTALLON. As part of the Year of Creative Scotland, Lammermuir 2012 has commissioned a unique and spectacular light and music performance at one of Scotland’s most breathtaking historic sites.”
