“I have always been such a fan of Edinburgh and Scotland as home to some of the most spectacular settings in the whole of the UK. This is going to be one of our toughest events and an amazing setting on Winton Estate for the festival. We are all really pleased Vogue Williams will be leading the event for us and that we are supporting such an incredible group of charities. The entertainment this year is also going to be fantastic along with the even more exciting kids’ race and the family festival.  Thank you to Winton House for hosting us – get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!”   – Bear Grylls

As well as the 5k and 10k Survival Races, there will be a Bear Grylls Kids Race and a fantastic Bear Grylls Outdoor Festival; truly a day unlike any other! The Bear Grylls Survival Race team to oversee the festivities and bring to life Bear’s world renowned spirit of endeavour, fitness and adventure.

For those not in the know, the popularity of adventurous and challenging obstacle courses has sky rocketed and the Bear Grylls Survival Race takes this concept to a whole new level.  We think Bear puts it rather well:

“This is about empowering people to test and extend their adventure fitness, using the type of obstacles that I have often encountered in the wild. We all have an edge, and this race is designed to push those physical and mental limits, to there and beyond.”

The races are a range of challenging survival scenarios including jungle, mountain, desert and arctic environments, encompassing all manner of physical and psychological obstacles to overcome. This is not simply ‘another muddy run’ it’s so much more. Adding to events is the fact that the settings for these epic adventures are in some of the UK’s best locations.

Bear Grylls Survival Race

Bear Grylls Survival Race Training 6 Aug 2016 Winton House - Participants crawling in river

Our lucky participants will experience a range of ultra-dynamic obstacles all inspired by the tremendously adventurous life of Bear Grylls. For competitors, to reach the finish line of the 5k or 10k course is a major achievement. The 5k Survival Race is packed with exciting and fun challenges, designed for all levels of fitness and it is a fantastic event to tackle individually or better still in a group with friends. While a physical element is required, the 5k survival race is also a fantastic opportunity for those with limited experience of this type of event to push themselves and make a positive impact on their own health and fitness goals.

The 10k Survival Race cranks up the pressure and is strategically designed to test even the toughest adventurers. Participants will be encouraged to survive by completing our unique survival challenges including (but certainly not limited to) fire-lighting and air rifle shooting. The general aim being to uncover their inner ‘Survivor’ through a series of professionally constructed themed zones. Think crystal maze but with bells on and a WHOLE lot more physical endurance testing.

Bear Grylls Kids Race

The Bear Grylls Kids Race is exactly as it sounds; we want to see all of our little ‘Bears’ challenging themselves at the BG Kids Race. Open to children aged 4-13, participants will make their way through the jungle, desert, mountains and arctic all in one course!

With the 2015 Bear Grylls Kids Race seeing over 1,000 amazing participants make it out for the day of fun and thrills, we’re anticipating even more this year. Our aim is to provide the same experience for the kids as the adults. Bear himself is a big believer in the idea that kids are the next generation of survival experts and we hope we can be part of how their adventuring starts. The Bear Grylls kids race is of course a fantastic race opportunity for young ones, but it’s also a great tool for parents and grown-ups; a perfect chance to get the kids back outdoors and off their computers to begin their relationship with adventure.

Bear Grylls Outdoor Festival

This unique part to the day underscores the entire ethos of the survival race; getting together with friends and family and spending the day doing something unforgettable. From gourmet pop-up food stalls to a fully licensed bar, there are also craft shops, bush survival demonstrations on the main stage and a ton of festival entertainments for all ages including a bungee jump, Water-zorbs, Segway and even live music, para jet flying shows, falconry and…for the brave, a bush-grub eating contest, plus so much more…There will also be race-viewing points within the festival and the opportunity to dabble in some of the Survival Challenges featured in the race.

Our Sponsors

The event itself is done in collaboration with and sponsored by a huge variety of exciting partners. To start us off, we are all too aware of the importance of good hydration on the race, and Aquacai will be our official water sponsor for all of the events. Overbury, the UKs leading outfitting specialists have kindly built four fantastic obstacle scenarios…without giving too much away, one of them includes a dizzying 15 metre drop!
While having a ton of fun, we also place a huge focus on safety, and to provide medical assistance on the day, Exile Medics will be there on hand. Even though we put on a grueling course, safety is priority and through our partnership with exile medics, we will see between 25 – 75 qualified medical staff on event day. Our events also would not be the same without fantastic contribution from Ex Royal Marines and Bear Grylls Survival Academy Instructors. Not to mention the Royal Marine reserves that will be manning the event & enforcing penalties for non-completed obstacles (sounds scary, but a lot of fun)

Of course, with so many different elements to our events, we need some fantastic outdoor gear. That’s where Gerber products & Gamo Air Precision Rifles come in; they will be part of exciting survival challenges that really crank up the pressure for our competitors. Our charity partner for the Bear Grylls Survival Race is stand up to cancer and we work with over 300 charities through our run for charity programme.
